1000:1100 Combat Stress - Developing Clinical Services over the past ten years. Professor Gordon Turnbull will introduce Consultant Psychiatrist Walter Busuttil who served for 16 years in the RAF and was based at the Neuro Psychiatric Centre Princess Alexandra’s RAF (Hospital) Wroughton. Was part of the team that rehabilitated The Beirut Hostages and is now since 2007 Medical Director at Combat Stress.

1100:1130 Planned Dream Intervention - a technique to stop traumatic nightmares and reduce PTSD symptoms Justin Havens Psychological Therapist and EMDR, UK and Ireland Accredited Practitioner having completed his PhD at Ruskin Anglia University

1130:1145 Break - 1st music interlude where there will be “a little music” at each break and lunch and towards the evening

1145:1230 The Amazing  World War 1 diaries of Sister Edith Appleton OBE RRC  an illustrated talk by Dick  Robinson Edie’s great nephew

1230:1330 Chefs choice of Sandwich Lunch (includes crisps, cakes and fresh fruit juices)

1330:1345 Introductions to the afternoon - Richard Hilling

1345:1430 “Finding our Hidden Strengths” Looking at how we tend to view an acquired disability , or health condition as a weakness which society  and it’s leads reinforce and that with a different mindset and approach we can appreciate  and communicate to others - the strength it builds in us. Jane Cordell – musician, teacher, editor, diplomat, coach and social entrepreneur who has been deaf since her early 20s                              

1430:1500 “Listen, Reassure and Respond -The Aftermath of the Grenfell Tower Fire” Doctor Richard Castle , Policy Director Grenfell Hope Project and UK advisor for the Innovation for the Wellbeing Foundation, Bangladesh

1500:1530 Break “doughnut therapy” with tea and coffee

1530: 1630 Presentation by Caroline Purvey CEO and Lead Practitioner for TRE UK(R). A new approach to Wellbeing with Total Release Experience a natural “no talking” release from stress, anxiety and Trauma. Caroline is locally organising a workshop on Saturday 7 October 2019: Click here for details

1630:1700 A Veteran of Afghanistan relates experiences of Combat and the Post Conflict "long and winding road" to Positive Psychological Consequences.  Olly Church was a Captain in the Queen's Royal Lancers and husband of Sarah Church, herself a retired army officer and labour candidate for Swindon South.

 

1700: 1730 Questions from the floor to the presenters and a little light music to end the day introduced by Richard Hilling.  Who’s for dinner tonight?

 

Recommended Reading: A Short Journey into Trauma: Understanding and Coping with Post Traumatic Stress Merlin Press Price: £14-99 Local author Frank Parkinson’s (who many attendees know) new publication is excellent, moving and informative with whom I recommend read this book and pass onto family, friends and colleagues

As in previous years there will be a draw at the Conference and prizes include Sunday Lunch for two with tea or coffee and chocolate mint to follow at the Source Grill restaurant Swindon Marriott, a copy of Frank Parkinson’s new book and a box of chocolates. Price per ticket £2-50

The evening function 1945 for 2000 hrs start will be in the hotel restaurant. Three course meal with tea, or coffee and mints to follow, cost £25-00 per person (£28-50 for the steak course)

Of Note - Those wishing to stay overnight at the Marriott please see www.marriott.co.uk/Swindon where if attendees book in advance.  Rate @ 1815 hrs  Tuesday 25 July 2017 £63-00 (have to pay by visa card) for two sharing with breakfast and those requesting a single room price remains the same. That is for guests staying overnight on Friday 6 October 2017. Prices may go up or down.
